Title: Chapter 3

The storm outside raged on, but inside The Velvet Lounge, a different kind of tempest began to brew. Irtaza Shaikh, the ruthless kingpin of Chicago, felt an unfamiliar warmth spreading through his chest, igniting something dormant within him. His world of shadows and blood had never allowed for such softness—yet here he was, cradling a girl who embodied every bit of innocence he had long since buried.

Mehar nestled closer, her small body seeking refuge in the safety of his embrace. The sound of thunder seemed to fade into the background, replaced by the rhythm of her heartbeat echoing against his chest. In that moment, the lines between predator and protector began to blur.

"Can we keep him?" Mehar’s voice broke through his thoughts, her eyes sparkling with hope as she gestured toward the kitten, who had finally found the courage to poke his head out from under the towel.

Irtaza chuckled softly, the warmth of her trust igniting a flame of protectiveness. "You want to keep a stray cat? You do know it could be a handful, right?"

Her eyes widened, and she sat up, her expression serious. "I’ll take care of him. I promise! I’ll feed him, bathe him, and teach him how to be brave." She glanced at him, her gaze unwavering. "Just like you."

The words struck Irtaza like a bullet, piercing through the armor he had built around himself. He was used to being feared, not admired. But here was this girl, looking at him as if he were a hero, not a monster.

Before he could respond, Bilal stepped forward, his expression a mixture of disbelief and concern. "Boss, are you sure about this? This isn’t a pet shop; it’s a lounge for—"

Irtaza shot him a warning glare, silencing him instantly. "Let her have the kitten, Bilal." The authority in his voice brooked no argument. "She can have whatever she wants."

Bilal’s jaw tightened, but he nodded, stepping back. It was a command that he would enforce, but Irtaza could see the worry etched on his friend’s face. The world they lived in wasn’t safe for anyone—especially not someone as innocent as Mehar.

As the thunder continued to rumble, the door to the lounge suddenly swung open, revealing a tall figure silhouetted against the stormy backdrop. The atmosphere shifted as the newcomer stepped inside, dripping wet and exuding a palpable aura of danger.

"Well, well, if it isn’t the infamous Irtaza Shaikh," the figure drawled, a smirk playing on his lips. It was Amir, Irtaza's former ally turned rival, and the tension in the room instantly thickened.

Irtaza's grip on Mehar tightened instinctively, his protective instincts flaring to life. "What do you want, Amir?" he growled, his eyes narrowing.

Amir stepped further into the light, revealing his sharp features and dark hair slicked back. "I just came to see how my favorite kingpin was doing. Heard you were keeping company with a little angel." His gaze flicked to Mehar, and she instinctively shrank back against Irtaza, her innocent demeanor disappearing as she sensed the danger radiating from Amir.

"Stay away from her," Irtaza warned, his voice low and threatening. "This isn’t a game."

"Relax, Irtaza," Amir chuckled, raising his hands in mock surrender. "I’m just here to talk business. You know how it is. But if you’re too busy playing babysitter, I can come back later."

Mehar looked up at Irtaza, her eyes wide with confusion. "Who is he?"

"Just a man who doesn’t know when to mind his own business," Irtaza replied, his voice steady but laced with tension. He knew Amir was dangerous, but he also understood that Amir held information that could be crucial for their syndicate's survival.

"Come on, don’t be so uptight," Amir taunted, leaning against the bar, clearly amused. "How about a little wager? You let me have a talk with you, and I’ll make sure your little friend here stays safe. No one in this city will touch her. You know that."

Irtaza’s jaw clenched. He couldn’t trust Amir, not when there was so much at stake. But the thought of putting Mehar in danger sent a chill down his spine.

"Leave her out of this," Irtaza warned, his voice grave.

Amir shrugged nonchalantly. "You know the stakes, Irtaza. You can’t protect her forever. Sooner or later, the past will come back to haunt you, and when it does, you’ll need all the allies you can get."

The tension in the room escalated, and Irtaza felt a dark storm brewing within him, one that had nothing to do with the weather outside. He wanted to obliterate the man in front of him, but he also couldn’t ignore the truth in Amir's words.

As the storm raged outside, Irtaza found himself at a crossroads, torn between protecting the fragile light in his life and confronting the shadows of his past that threatened to consume them both.

"Let’s talk," Irtaza finally said, his voice low and dangerous. "But if you even think about threatening her, I will end you."

Mehar watched, her heart racing, sensing the shifting dynamics of power in the room. She didn’t understand the full weight of the conversation, but she could feel the tension crackling between the two men.

As Irtaza rose from the couch, still holding her close, he whispered, "Stay right here, Mehar. I’ll be back."

She nodded, her eyes wide as she released the kitten, knowing she had to trust him. But as she watched Irtaza walk toward Amir, a knot of fear twisted in her stomach. She had stumbled into a world she didn’t understand, and now, she couldn’t help but wonder whether her presence would bring danger to the man who had so fiercely protected her.

The storm continued to rage outside, but in that dimly lit lounge, a different type of battle was only just beginning.

Tell me what you feel. Allah hafiz.
